Enhance the driving experience by reducing cognitive load, improving UI
glanceability, and creating intuitive touch and voice affordances to accomplish
navigation tasks while in motion.
An extention of Windows for the car, the conceptual Connected Car prototype was designed to present navigation, music, entertainment and car service tasks in a visually crisp and intuitive interface launched from a central Start screen. Shawna focused on navigation tasks, creating detailed touch and voice-enabled prototype flows for setting and modifying map routes, adding favorite destinations, locating points of interest, and exposing traffic and weather information during the drive. Designs were regularly tested, both in drive simulators to track eye movement and in actual cars running prototype builds, followed by rapid design iteration to improve touch interactions and reduce “eye time” on screen to less than two seconds per task. She proactively engaged her design peers to evaluate task flows, identify areas to promote voice interaction, apply a cohesive visual language, and ensure interaction consistency across the product.
