PICMONKEY

INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE + UX DESIGN
PicMonkey is a web-based photo editing and design tool for the everyday creative. When the company shifted its focus from hobbyist bloggers to small business professionals and social media marketers, I led the UX transformation to match. As project lead, I guided the redesign of core workflows—enhancing everything from first-time engagement to long-term retention. My work spanned global information architecture, cross-site navigation, content organization, and new collaboration tools. Partnering closely with visual design and marketing, I ensured the product experience reflected PicMonkey’s evolving brand voice, helping it grow into a trusted tool for the everyday creative entrepreneur.

VISUAL REFRESH
With the shift toward small business and social media marketers, the editor needed to mature both in style and editorial tone. I drove visual redesign efforts to update the UI with a clean, crisp palette and simplified image editing controls to reflect the professional target audience.

HUB INTEGRATION
In support of powerful photo editing capabilities that differentiate PicMonkey from other design tools on the market, each editable layer is preserved, enabling customers to access and update files on any device from PicMonkey’s Hub cloud storage.

To increase platform engagement and address customer confusion around where and how images were saved, Hub was promoted to the top level dashboard, facilitating quick retrieval, re-editing and organization of images for social marketing and design campaigns. Existing files are often used as templates to kick off new design projects, and are now are easily accessible from signed-in home.

As images rule the day in a photo editing product, additional Hub views and feature refinements were added to tailor the browsing experience to customer preference.

WORKFLOW OPTIMIZATION

PicMonkey serves creators who want their work to look professionally designed — without the time or desire to master design themselves. By pairing trend-savvy templates, typography, and graphics with thoughtfully reimagined user workflows, I redesigned key experiences from acquisition and onboarding to cross-site navigation and file management. The result: a streamlined, intuitive path that made core tasks faster and creativity feel effortless.

CRAFTING VISUAL SYNERGY
With a graphic design background and a passion for visually engaging product experiences, I partnered closely with marketing and visual design teams to weave PicMonkey’s brand seamlessly into the user interface—ensuring every touchpoint felt consistent, cohesive, and unmistakably PicMonkey.

I led visual design initiatives ranging from interactive onboarding and audience segmentation modals to feature announcements and paywall messaging. Driving cross-team collaboration, I advised on marketing web layouts and directed the creation of new icons and illustrations, guiding PicMonkey’s brand evolution to align with its changing target demographic.
